(Beauty and the Beast, Person of Interest) will recur on NBC’s upcoming Chicago Fire offshoot, TVLine has learned exclusively.
He will play Dr. Sam Abrams, a cantankerous, irritable but brilliant neurosurgeon. Per the official character description, he has “no patience for young, cocky, privileged, hot-headed doctors who lack his old-school work ethic. Though his bedside manner is lacking, his surgical skills make up for his astringent attitude.”
General Hospital vet Julie Berman
is transferring to Chicago Med.
The three-time Emmy-winning actress is joining NBC’s latest Chicago Fire spinoff in a recurring role, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Unlike on GH, Berman will actually be playing a doctor on Med — and a skilled one at that. Her character, Toni Zanetti, is a brilliant, self-assured attending surgeon who does not suffer fools. Sexy in scrubs and high heels, she confidently turns heads wherever she goes.
Berman’s Dr. Zanetti first appears in Episode 3.
Since wrapping up her eight-year GH run as Lulu Spencer in 2013, Berman has guest-starred on Jane the Virgin and Two and a Half Men. She can currently be seen in the new Hulu comedy series Casual.
Chicago Med premieres Nov. 17 at 9/8c.
Another series regular is scrubbing into Chicago Med.Marlyne Barrett
, best known for playing Nerese Campbell on The Wire, has joined the NBC medical drama, our sister site Deadline reports. Barrett’s character, Maggie, is described as a “multi-tasking force of nature, a battle-ax with wit and sass.”
But there’s a slight catch, at least for all you continuity sticklers out there: Barrett (pictured right) has already been featured on Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the short-lived Law & Order: Trial by Jury, making this her fourth appearance in the Dick Wolf universe. (And, yes, she’s always played different characters.)
Barrett is among several recent additions to Chicago Med, including new showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov (The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire).
