GST at NBC press tour, Talks about Vegas
« il: 5 August 2008, 16:56:17 »
NBC's bust out of Las Vegas in the middle of a two-part episode still rankles the show's executive producer Gary Scott Thompson, even though the network has thrown him a lucrative bone, the executive producer's job on the revived Knight Rider.

Thompson was asked at the press tour session for Knight Rider if reports were true he would have the Las Vegas characters played by Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims make an appearance on Knight Rider as a way to resolve their storyline.

Forget it, Thompson said. "There was a joke in the writers' room that somehow got out about having Danny and Delinda walk through an episode with a baby. It got picked up by the press. It has gotten picked up so much that Josh and Molly came to me the other day and said, 'Are we going to walk through the show?' But they are two different shows. I think it would be unfair to both sets of fans to try and do something like that."

What's more, Thompson doesn't want to let NBC off the hook with disappointed fans. "To be honest, I would hate to give the people who canceled the show the satisfaction of walking the cast through for a resolution."

Thompson also has a selfish motive for not giving away the endings. "I'm talking to people right now to raise the money to do a feature (film) to resolve it," Thompson said. "I have a whole two-hour movie in my head."

Oggi  TV Guide (la bibbia Americana tra i giornali per la TV) ha pubblicato un articolo-intervista:

Exclusive: Vegas Boss "Actively Trying" for Closure

Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims by Mitchell Haaseth/NBCRight now, Gary Scott Thompson, as the show runner for NBC's Knight Rider series (premiering Sept. 24), is focused on turning K.I.T.T. into an even leaner, meaner crimefighting machine. But sharing some bandwith with that mission is the idea of giving closure to the Las Vegas fans who saw their series hurried off the air as a casualty of the WGA strike. Has the ship sailed as far as hope for that goes? "I don’t think so, as far as myself and some of the cast members are concerned," Thompson told me during a detour from an in-depth look at the new Knight Rider. "We're actively trying to figure out how to do something."

Thompson says that Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims are particularly interested in spelling out what became of Danny, Delinda and their baby. "I talked to them both the other day, and they said we should do something. It was their characters that were really left hanging, and they were very upset by it."

While one possible fix would find Thompson, Duhamel and Sims simply appearing together in an online video to explain what was next, another solution would build on previous buzz about a fleeting Knight Rider cameo by the new parents. Thompson, though, would rather write the Vegas characters into an entire episode of his new baby.

"It's not impossible, because in the original [Knight Rider], Las Vegas is where one of the headquarters is," Thompson notes. "But pulling together all those people, working out the schedules.... I mean, Josh is a bona fide movie star now. But if we ever did it, it would have to entail the entire episode and answer a lot of questions." — Matt Mitovich
