What’s the saying — live by the sword, die by the sword? Sources tell me that the same budget cuts that allegedly led to Stana Katic and Tamala Jones not being asked back for Season 9 also have thrown a wrench in any plan to “move” the characters out of New York City, seeing as a whole buncha new sets would have to be built. So the smart money has Rick and… whomever… staying put in the Big Apple, in the event of renewal.

Question: With the recent casting shocker on Castle, and fans' displeasure that is sure to come with those exits, how likely is a ninth season now that this has come? (Also, I kinda lost interest in the show a few seasons back, but still I was shocked about the news.) — HC

Matt Roush: If Castle does return next season, in whatever format, it will be a reminder of the importance on any network's lineup of procedurals with a mainstream following. ABC has precious few dramas with this sort of staying power, including the ability to repeat episodes successfully (unlike serials such as Grey's Anatomy) which is why they're even considering moving on without its leading lady. Whether this is a good idea? That's the debate, which continues to rage.

Question: I was disappointed to hear that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones were let go from a possible next season of Castle. Both of them played a huge part in the success of Castle and both deserved better than to be abruptly dismissed. Without them, I think the show should sign off after this season, rather than limping along as a much-diminished show. For a long time, Castle was a fun, mostly lighthearted mystery show. What is disappointing is that, for whatever reason, once Castle and Beckett got together, the show got stuck and couldn't move the characters forward. Even though Castle was aging as a show, I still think there was a lot that could have been explored plot-wise to keep it interesting (e.g. time jump a few years, have Alexis join law enforcement, etc.). So I was wondering if you agreed, or if you think Castle just reached the natural end of a show's lifespan? — Brian

Matt Roush: I feel the show reached that end a while ago, once the producers kept throwing up obstacles in the Castle-Beckett relationship instead of just settling in for a comfortable long and happy run. But as long as the audience kept coming back, ABC would have been foolish to pull the plug on a franchise like this. I'm with you, though, that bringing Castle back as a shell of its former self is not the best way to go. It's all kind of sad.

Question: With all the chat about the Castle situation and the fact that Stana Katic's contract was up and the network was looking for ways to rein in the budget, how come there's not a lot of talk about this "feud" that's apparently been going on between Stana and Nathan Fillion, and how come it's all leaking out now? I know the show's called Castle and not Castle & Beckett, but maybe they should let it go. If it gets picked up for even an abbreviated final ninth season, do you think they'll kill off her character? Not sure how anything else would even work. As for NCIS: one of my favorite shows, and Michael Weatherly leaving will leave an immense hole, but I'm not going anywhere. Heck, more screen time for David McCallum! - Michael

Matt Roush: Backstage gossip is not my area of expertise, but tension on this particular set was not exactly a well-kept secret, though nothing I'd feel comfortable commenting on unless someone with authority went public. (And maybe not even then, although it may help explain why the couple sometimes has limited screen time together.) Once this announcement was made, it became open season for those analyzing the situation to bring this up. But all I'm really concerned with as a critic is whether it makes sense to continue without one half of the lead couple. Would The Thin Man be the same if Nick lost Nora? As for how Castle will write out Beckett: That's a corner they've painted themselves into, and I'll be curious if they can resolve it in a way more satisfying than, say, Matthew driving to his doom in Downton Abbey (still haven't gotten over that one).

Su ste voci che girano sulla 9 stagione non mi piacciono affatto, se e vero che sposteranno castle investigazioni a LA e che ci sarà un nuovo amore per rick(summer glau) giuro che se ste cose sono vere allora non era questione di budget ma qualcosa nei confronti di Stana perchè per spostare l'ufficio l'apartamento di rick e prendere un altra attrice ci vogliono soldi e giuro che se fanno una cosa del genere rovinando 8 anni di storia d'amore vado fino in america ad ucciderli personalmente oppure mi faccio dire il nome dello spacciatore di quelli dell'abc perchè e ovvio che questi si drogano!!!! Poi gia mi immagino rick che diventa come don matteo gli machera solo la bici almeno che non glie la regalino! Immagino lui che arriva prima della polozia sulla scena del crimine e che risolve i casi prima di loro in due secondi,magari in futuro si puo fare un crossover con don matteo WOW!!! Quella si che sarebbe na coppia vincente altro che castle e beckett 😓😓😓 che amarezza ragazzi !!!! Grz abc hai rovonato tutto 👍👍

Meanwhile, “The Muppets” is primed for a renewal, despite ratings that continued to sag after a midseason showrunner change. Though execs have been 50/50 on bringing back the furry friends in recent months, sources say to expect another season. Long-running drama “Castle” also has a 50/50 shot at returning after jettisoning actors Stana Katic and Tamala Jones and their accompanying salaries. ABC is in negotiations with star Nathan Fillion and will have a definite decision for the show’s team May 5 or 6.

Io a questo punto credo che la serie sarà cancellata. Il mancato rinnovo era nell'aria a prescindere dalla situazione contrattuale degli attori, se è vero che gli sceneggiatori hanno preparato due diversi finali. E il feedback su una eventuale stagione 9 incentrata solo su Castle è stato decisamente negativo (anche se poi c'è differenza tra le reazioni dei fan più assidui e gli ascolti).

Però davvero non capisco perché la ABC abbia fatto uscire la news del licenziamento di Stana e Tamala prima di decidere sul rinnovo. Non solo non ha senso da un punto di vista logico (tu prima decidi se rinnovare la serie e poi, in caso di rinnovo, pensi a come farla proseguire), ma se poi davvero Castle non verrà rinnovata, il network avrà fatto una figura pessima per niente.

Tamala nell'intervista ad Access Hollywood ha detto che non si aspettava la news uscisse così presto ... lei lo ha saputo il venerdì , la news è uscita lunedì .
Secondo me proprio per le modalità in cui è uscita la news ,  abc non voleva far uscire nulla , ma qualcuno ha fatto la soffiata ( e nonostante tutto ...aggiungo ... per fortuna) e abc si è limitata a dire quelle due frasi di conferma ... e pure qui ci sarebbe molto da dire sul trattamento rivolto a chi è stata per metà parte integrante del successo di Castle ....   
Se Castle venisse cancellato sarebbe un miracolo

ora questi vogliono fare una s9, come new beginning. ... con il peso di ste due cose sulla capoccia? Ovviamente se i fans televisivi dimenticheanno presto tutto (Mannaggia a loro) purtroppo potrà sopravvivere,  ma se il monumento eretto virtualmente a memoria resterà presente.... avranno perso in partenza e Castle sarà sempre il vedovo di Beckett nn il PI super fun e basta.... Nathan caro, avrai Stana sempre presente forse peggio di quando ci dovevi lavorare assieme....😉😂

Quella parola tabula rasa!!! Quanto la odio vogliono cancellare 8 anni di storia in un episodio come se niente fosse, come se kate non fosse mai esistita!!? Che squallore,che schifo!. Cancellare 8 anni di storia con una donna e sopratutto con che DONNA!! Come rovinare una serie tv che ho amato 😡😡😡😭😭

Mai avrei pensato che Castle sarebbe "finito" così
Tutto il peggio che un fan potrebbe aver voluto, è successo...on e off screen
Le notizie che si susseguono sono una peggio dell'altra.
Io su twiter e vari social anche ufficiale abc cerco di dimostrare mio disappunto ma ovvio che non posso stare tutti i giorni a twittare #noStananoCastle
Quel poco che posso fare lo faccio ma ovvio che contro i telespettatori reali, possiamo fare ben poco. Spero come già detto che la memoria di Beckett sarà la incudine che aleggerá sopra la s9 ( e si sono quasi sicura che NATHAN ha firmato per essa, solo per questione di "principio") e che la sua  memoria che gli peserà talmente tanto da non averè il successo sperato.
Nathan da solo e/o con Molly, Tonka ed i "Bro" non li vedo che possano dare allo spettatore di Castle dei precedenti otto anni, alcuna prospettiva di affiliazione.

Ma io sono di parte....rimane tanto dispiacere e una speranza che questi 8 anni non siano stati sprecati e alla fine i fans anche televisivi esprimeranno il loro dissenso.

Ad ogni modo ci hanno tolto tutto e di questo non potrò mai perdonari ....show business lo chiamano .... but still....

Finché cmq possiamo facciamo qualcosa per dimostrare ns. disappunto. Fare qualcosa é meglio che nn fare nulla...

Scrivo dopo molto tempo riguardo questa storia e non ho davvero molte cose da dire. Il telefilm è finito e a prescindere da un rinnovo non credo che andrò a vedere la stagione 9. Sono triste perchè è finito nella maniera peggiore che potesse esistere, con dissapori, rinunce, con sotterfugi e con malumori. Quando ho iniziato a vedere Castle era tutto semplice e questa era la forte chiave di svolta della serie tv. Da anni oramai vediamo scene inesistenti fra i protagonisti e quando ci sono stonano perchè non hanno più senso. Castle aveva un senso con Beckett perchè lei è il suo amore, la sua musa e lei aveva senso con lui perchè gli ha letteralmente svoltato la vita. Senza questa chimica non ha più alcun senso la serie tv. Ma noi fan accaniti, che sono 8 lunghi anni che vediamo, scriviamo, facciamo psicologia su Castle, non possiamo dimenticare quanto sangue amaro appresso alle piccole conquiste fatte passo dopo passo dalla serie tv. È partita come una serie tv di nicchia e ancora mi ricordo che andava in onda dopo NCIS su Rai 2. Ricordiamo tutti il primo bacio sotto copertura, la prima notte, ricordiamo tutti il graduation speech di Alexis e i discorsi pieni d'amore dei Caskett. Quello che più mi rammarica è che di questo non è rimasto nulla se non la sensazione che il tutto sia fatto con grande pressappochismo. Se ne vanno via gli autori, vanno via i personaggi principali, sembra tutto fatto con senso, ma di senso ne ha poco.
Discorso a parte per Nathan che sinceramente non pensavo sarebbe potuto essere una persona così piena di ego.

Non ci resta che aspettare le ultime due puntate e sperare che lei non muoia; o che perlomeno non mandino tutto a schifio peggio di come stanno già facendo.
